Rib and Block

Rib and block systems are popular in the construction industry due to the reduced weight, cost effectiveness, and ease of installation in comparison to traditional concrete slabs.

The properties of expanded polystyrene are well-suited for rib and block systems, where polystyrene replaces the traditional hollow concrete blocks to offer insulation and weight reduction.

Density

Polystyrene density determines compressive thresholds (affecting the force it can withstand) and R-values (an indicator of its insulative properties). Higher density results in higher R-values.

Thickness

Polystyrene blocks can be cut to various thicknesses, generally ranging from 10mm to 200mm depending on the use case. Thicker polystyrene provides greater insulation than thin sheets of polystyrene.

Profile

Polystyrene can be cut into various profiles for each application, including rib-and-block. Cumulus has an advanced automated cutting line, as well as CNC-cutting machines to cater for any need.

Cumulus' Rib and block system utilises expanded polystyrene blocks with a density between 14kg/m³ and 20kg/m³ depending on engineering and insulation requirements.

These blocks can be cut to a maximum length of 1200mm, and in a variety of thicknesses.

The dimensions of the groove for the rib can be adjusted to meet your project's requirements.
